An insight into what we do
Here at Abbeydale Vets, we offer a wide variety of veterinary services to help keep your pet in top shape! From routine procedures including vaccinations and dental checks, to surgical procedures such as neutering, we are always here to help in whatever way we can. Below, you can find more information on a few of our most popular services. You can also find further useful information on topics such as neutering on our pet advice page.
At the main Blackburn Surgery, we have digital x-ray and an advanced ultrasound machine with colour. Our digital x-ray allows enhancement and manipulation of the digital image. This allows us to get the best idea of what's going on inside your pet and to decide what is best for them. Our new state of the art dental x-ray machine also allows us to provide the top level of dental care for your pet.
There have been numerous studies, showing that K-Laser therapy can help with a variety of issues your pet may face, including:
Modern veterinary medicine relies increasingly on laboratory testing for the diagnosis and monitoring of many different conditions. Our Blackburn and Darwen surgeries have fully equipped laboratories where many tests can be performed accurately and quickly. Some blood tests we have performed by an external laboratory; to which we send samples via motorcycle courier, to ensure a speedy service.
An automated cell counter enables us to count and measure both red and white blood cells in a sample, which gives vital diagnostic information.
We have an automatic blood chemistry analyser to measure many different compounds and enzymes in the blood.
Microchipping is the implantation of an identichip via a needle under the skin on the back of the neck. This chip reveals a unique number when a scanner is passed over it. This number is linked to your pet's name, address and phone number. Any animal can have a microchip – please do not hesitate to ask about other animals if you are unsure.
Since April 2016, it is now a legal requirement that all dogs MUST be microchipped and the details registered up-to-date. This new law does not depend on the age of the dog; it is for ALL dogs.
To get your dog microchipped, please contact one of our surgeries.
At the Blackburn Surgery, we have a dedicated operating theater and specialist surgical equipment, allowing us to perform a range of surgical procedures.
We now offer services for Exotic animals at Abbeydale Vets Blackburn. Our veterinary surgeon Jenny Smith has a special interest in exotics, and treats:
And many more!
